Police, Teachers Top List of Key Endorsements for Ruppersberger
For Immediate Release
October 13, 2022
(Timonium, MD) – Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger has received the backing of Maryland’s top law enforcement organization in the latest addition to a growing and diverse list of endorsements in his campaign for re-election to represent Maryland’s Second District.
Congressman Ruppersberger was the only Congressional candidate to be endorsed this year by the Maryland State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police, which represents 21,000 law enforcement officers from local and state agencies. The endorsement is noteworthy amid partisan rhetoric over rising crime rates and police budgets.
“Our dedicated law enforcement officers can see through conservative talking points about defunding the police,” Congressman Ruppersberger said. “My record in support of our police and first responders is strong, consistent and a matter of public record. I fight every day to bring home the resources our police need to do their jobs and keep us safe. I am proud to support law enforcement and even prouder that law enforcement supports me.”
A former prosecutor, Ruppersberger prioritized police as Baltimore County Executive and funded their first pay raise in years. In Congress, he has secured more than $70 million for police, firefighters and crime victims and helped write a law to strengthen violence intervention efforts pioneered by University of Maryland’s Shock Trauma.
The Maryland FOP endorsement follows others including the National Education Association, which represents more than 3 million school employees, mostly teachers. Additionally, Congressman Ruppersberger has been endorsed by:
· The Sierra Club
· Baltimore County Progressive Democrats
· Moms Demand Action
· AFSCME
· Maryland AFL-CIO
· North Baltimore County Democratic Club
· Carroll County Democratic Club
